California Department of Mental Health

Right Column

For over 110 years, since the laying of the cornerstone on December 15, 1890, the staff and patients of Patton State Hospital have witnessed, experienced, and contributed to improvements in understanding, caring for, and treating the mentally ill.  It is my sincerest desire that we will someday see major breakthroughs which render obsolete the current necessity for institutional treatment of our mentally ill friends and loved ones.

The staff of Patton State Hospital treat our patients with dignity and respect, with care and understanding, and with modern science and technology.  Their dedication is extraordinary!  Private hospitals may indeed provide more elegant surroundings, but Patton provides as high a quality of psychiatric care as is available anywhere in the world.  We, therefore, celebrate the good works that have gone on for the past century, today, and in the future.
