Periodically, Statistics and Data Analysis (SDA) is involved in compiling and/or producing data for specialized reports that include county mental health statistical data as well as data from sources outside SDA. Frequently these are single reports which are not updated. However, the data may still be needed for reference in the report and may be helpful for historical research. This website will contain such reports and/or data used in such reports.

State Hospitals Patient Movements and Population Information
The State Hospitals Benchmark Information book is produced by Statistics and Data Analysis (SDA) to facilitate access to frequently requested information. This contains admission, discharge and inpatient population information by billable versus non-billable status for each fiscal year, from 1979-80 through the most recently completed fiscal year. Frequency distributions for key demographic variables are provided for the inpatient population on June 30th of each fiscal year throughout the period. Also, included is a less detailed historical series, organized by hospital and fiscal year, beginning in 1850-51.
The data presented in this site is only a small representation of what is available from SDA. If there is a need for other information concerning State Hospital populations and movements, please don't hesitate to call. We can quickly produce a wide variety of documents including tables, graphs and reports, covering a broad range of variable and time periods.
If you have any questions about the enclosed material or would like to discuss the availability of additional data, please contact at the Statistics and Data Analysis unit at (916) 653-6257.

DATA FOR ANALYSIS OF QUALITY AND ADEQUACY OF SERVICES FOR EMILY Q. CLASS MEMBERS
Pursuant to Emily Q. v. Bonta (C.D.Cal., 2001, CV 98-4181 AHM (AIJx)), Order Re: Plan to Increase TBS Utilization and Joint Stipulation Thereof, filed July 29, 2004, the Department of Mental Health (DMH) has prepared these data to display the TBS utilization rate by county mental health plan (MHPs) along with rates of state hospital placements by county making the placement, readmissions for psychiatric inpatient hospital services by MHP of the beneficiary, and group home placements at Rate Classification Levels 12, 13 and 14 by county making the placement. DMH will be analyzing these data to select MHPs for focused reviews to examine quality of care and adequacy of services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries who are Emily Q. class members. In selecting MHPs for focused reviews, DMH may also consider data on the percentage of youth in juvenile halls who have mental health needs or prescribed psychotropic medications by the county of the facility and the rates of juvenile arrests by county in which the arrest was made, which are also included in the data below.
